Facebook users are not allowed to host parties and other events near the White House during Joe Biden's inauguration.

Facebook announced it on its website. With this measure, the company hopes to prevent riots or storms from being organized via the platform, for example.

It's a direct response to what happened on Capitol Hill earlier this month. Supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the building when the votes were counted, believing Trump to be the real winner.

Trump has long claimed the election was stolen from him but offered no concrete evidence. Almost all of the lawsuits he initiated were therefore dismissed.

Facebook will also pay more attention to events in other regions during the inauguration. If it turns out that they break the rules, they will also be removed from the social network.

Frequent line circuit breakers

Additionally, the company will further limit the accounts of frequent rule breakers so that they temporarily cannot live stream or create events.

This is yet another step Facebook is taking after taking the Capitol. Previously, Donald Trump was banned from the platform. Political ads are also temporarily unwelcome on the site.
